An exceptional suite of four reinforced concrete chairs designed by Poul Kj\u00e6rholm and produced by Fritz Halvorsens Betonvarefabrik.<\/p>\n
D\u00e9velopp\u00e9 en 1954, ce mod\u00e8le s\u2019inscrit dans les premi\u00e8res recherches de Kj\u00e6rholm autour de la conception en mat\u00e9riau unique. S\u2019inspirant notamment de la Zig Zag Chair de Gerrit Rietveld, il transpose cette logique structurelle au b\u00e9ton moul\u00e9, donnant naissance au syst\u00e8me modulaire \u201cBeton Elementer\u201d compos\u00e9 de chaises et de tables.<\/p>\n
The project was commissioned by Niels Lauritz Dam, who oversaw road infrastructure in northwestern Denmark. Kj\u00e6rholm was tasked with designing furnishings that would be durable and adaptable for outdoor use. In response, he developed a modular system allowing the elements to function independently or be combined in varying lengths. The elements were anchored below the frost line, conceived for permanence and for direct integration into the landscape.<\/p>\n
The chairs presented here remain in original condition and are structurally sound, showing signs of age including paint loss, surface wear, and a stable crack under one of the chair, consistent with long-term outdoor exposure. This patina, inseparable from their history, reflects Kj\u00e6rholm\u2019s original intention for the Beton Elementer \u2014 conceived to endure over time.<\/p>\n
Propos\u00e9es aujourd\u2019hui sous la forme d\u2019une suite compl\u00e8te de quatre, ces chaises constituent l\u2019un des chapitres les plus rares et les plus singuliers de l\u2019\u0153uvre de Kj\u00e6rholm.<\/p>\n
