Extremely rare coffee table, also called either “occasional” or “cocktail” table, from the Italian master Gio Ponti. It consists of a round glass top resting on a structure in varnished cherry wood, enhanced with brass. Small flaws and patina of use, very good general condition. This table model, exceptional in design and with beautiful organic lines, was presented at the 20th century decorative arts sale at Sotheby’s on November 4, 1999, during which it doubled the estimate (Hammer price at the time: £ 2,800; with fees: £ 3,220, i.e. € 5,034, source: Artprice).
